A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
