Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
