Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
