‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Posts Heartfelt Tribute to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being held without bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

Children Share Their Grief

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner with a statement shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
