The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Against the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic following the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Down 3-1, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, making him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he continued.
The Blue Jays claimed the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
