The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage any other side in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. With many victories thus frequently great spirits at the club. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
