The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
