This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Seeks to Be Super Effective On Resellers

Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company and the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store featuring special items. Fans will find offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are drawing from the institution's aesthetic. For collectors, though, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled both the physical location to online between late January and mid-April.

The Book That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome packed with stunning illustrations that show creatures in their natural habitats. The concept like what an in-world scientist could produce after adventurers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal could have sketched had the Galapagos were populated by flying-types instead of birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly treatment, treating Pokémon as worthy of subject for inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

Why This Promo Card Different

It is common to issue special edition cards celebrating major tournaments or crossover partnerships. Many such promotional cards typically highlight the famous mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be strictly limited, with fans able to get only a single card per purchase.

Curbing Reseller Interest

Per an official announcement, some of the pop-up items will also be sold outside the museum walls. But, a wider release is slated for specific stores within the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors will not be able to purchase this promo via the online Pokémon Center. Although reseller interest is inevitable, the setup suggests they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. For those unable to attend, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to the Windy City in the coming months.

"Every penny from purchases made in the museum store and from its online store, which covers these items, support the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the research of hundreds of researchers dedicated to conducting studies and finding solutions to the planetary emergency," it notes.
