Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be real Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded two goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.
However the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his area.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.
However, instead of booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.
Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.
A particular of those booing sessions really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane commented regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Alright jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another moving ahead."
Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.
Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the second goal was "completely preventable".
"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a true leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.
He stated following the match that he had to take the feedback.
"The second score was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."
He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It is on us to stay more composed, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor loss and it is hard to take."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.
Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five moments after the clearance.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my interest sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was all about attempting to make the correct contact and get it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager
Although Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.
The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint club record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against the manager's former club Brentford and champions the Reds to come prior to the close of the year.
Only one of those wins have come since the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to go against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the second is a error from Vic.
"This result puts us in a place where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."
Spurs have lost four consecutive at home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.
And they are recording nine point five shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest averages on record in a single season (since at least 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
